Overview
Pinpoint Decisions has developed a family of search-oriented, appliance-based systems that can be used in all vertical market spaces where content access is an issue. Our systems provide an integrated, multiple search engine solution that can repeatedly and accurately find all relevant content from inside unstructured documents (.doc, .xls, .ppt, .pdf, etc.) or from inside structured content (databases such as Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL, mySQL, etc.).
Issues
Organizations today
face real challenges when trying to find important information:
- Content is spread all over your LAN; finding pertinent content on file servers, data silos, and within co-workers hard disk drives is difficult (what happens when
co-workers are not at work or are not available?)
- Web-searches include many sites that are not relevant to your business, resulting in a huge number of useless results
- Content resides in multiple software systems: email servers, data
management systems, OCR paper-to-electronic text systems, etc. (how do
you access all this content in a uniform manner along with your content on
your hard disk drive? )
- The amount of content increases over time, making it increasingly difficult to find the exact content you want (you have used some sort of categorization
scheme to organize your files, right?)
- Content is located inside many different file types; how do you find content
within a presentation, a spreadsheet, documents, and an email with
attachments all through a single, consistent search mechanism interface?
- A
different search and retrieval mechanisms exist in each application ;
each search mechanism has its own approach to content access and don't "play" together. Some
searches just look at metadata - file name, date, author, etc. Some
searches perform keyword search, others contextual search, and yet others
conceptual search. These
retrieval mechanisms each have their own, unique search interface, and have varying
degrees of success in actually
finding relevant content.
Recent research both inside the search industry and by marketplace
analysts show that the average employee spends up to 400 hours each year looking for content without finding their target documents easily (if at all). Consider the number of employees in
your business, their labor rate and the number of hours spent looking for content, and the need for improved search is apparent. A significant ROI is apparent.
Pinpoint Solution
Pinpoint's Search Management System (SMS) products provides a focused search interface across all of your content regardless of where it resides. Easily find the
appropriate, consistent, and relevant content with Pinpoint's
single interface and mulitple, advanced search algorithms. Some of the features include the following:

|
- Search functions across a configurable set of data content locations and silos (local and LAN-based hard-disk drives, Intranet content, Internet content, and other applications such as document and content management systems).
- A single search interface to find all data content.
- Access to all platforms - Microsoft, LINUX, UNIX, and Mac. Pinpoint can find
unstructured content - content that contains a significant amount of free form
text, does not reside in a structured database,
and the actual content cannot easily be searched in its original format.
- Access to unstructured content from inside many popular file types including e-mail and
Microsoft Exchange server; unstructured content includes but is not limited to Word documents, spreadsheets, Adobe documents, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
- Access to database content and third-party application data using a series of connectors (plug-ins) to connect to office or enterprise data silos as well as application meta data additions.
- Appliance format and web-based administration simplifies installation and configuration
- Configured to easily
support SOHO (single office, home office - 1 to 20 users) and SMB (small and
medium sized business, 21 to 100 users) applications
